Today we went to a bee farm. I learned about the queen bee and how when a
queen bee gets really sick, all the other bees choose a random baby working bee
and feed it royal jelly so it grows to be super long and be the new queen
bee. It can live up to 3 years while the
working bees live up to 2 to 3 months. There
are about 2,500 workers and one queen bee.
There are also about 200 helping bees.
Did you know that bees don't sting if you don't bother
them? Bees don't sting because once they
sting they die. If a wasp comes near a
bee the bee does not sting it or it will die so the bee just gets stung and
then all get together and cover the wasp until it can't breath and it
eventually dies. Learning about the bees to me was fascinating.
I got to taste many different types of honey but I only
liked one - the Gimlet honey. Yum Yum.
Next we went to a sheep farm. First, we bought some animal food then went
to a animal show. We saw how they shave
sheep. First, they had Marlow (dog) chase sheep from the field. It was pretty nice. I have to admit this dog does great work.
My dad gave it a shot he was really good - probably because
he has his own beard to shave.
When the sheep was shaved, it kind of looked like a
kangaroo.
I even got to keep some of the sheep skin (wool). I learned that they shave sheep so they will
be cold and start eating twice as much and become healthy and chunky.
Later I got to feed the lambs. I felt like it was my own baby. I even got to carry a lamb and pet it. It made me feel so amazing.
Finally, we went to feed the animals. I fed goats that made my hand tickle. I also fed alpaca, ducks, pigs, and a messy
horse who made my hand all brown. I
thought they were so cute. Well, the
pigs and horses were a lot grumpy not friendly.
Now we just came back from McDonald's. I ate a lamb burger it was very good and
tasty, yummy!
You are a bee-utiful blogger! Love to see the pictures of what you are doing. Keep having fun!
