January 7, 2013 - Iguazu Falls Argentina
Today we went to Iguazú. That means "big waterfalls."
Today was hot and sunny but we still got soaked by the
waterfalls. First we took a very nice
train to the Devils Throat. That is a very big waterfall that is shaped like a
mouth. It forms because of erosion. That means when the water fall hits the
rock they start to break slowly and the start to form. The waterfalls are very
strong. You could actually die if you go down one.
Can you believe once there
was no rain and the waterfalls had no water? That actually happened in 1996.
Iguazú Is called the red land. The water from the devils throat is red and gold because of the iron
oxide. Iron oxide is a red rust and the water picks up the rust. It is actually
a mineral in the soil. The rust is starting to make the water bleary and the
fish can't find there babies and the birds can't find prey.
On our way to the upper levels and lower
level waterfalls we saw many cool things. We saw mushrooms, flowers, bamboo
trees, turtles, lizards that looked like Mr. Kipling, coatimundi (that is an
animal that looks like a cross between an anteater and raccoon), and we also saw birds. We saw a bird called
tero tero. We also saw a bird called grey bird. It is endemic to the area.
Today was a
huge blast!!!!!!!!!!!!
